Stand Up for Littles is a unique fundraiser benefitting Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Seacoast (BBBSGS) which was conceived when a local mentor wanted to Start Something Big. Last year Chris Carragher, an avid surfer and marketing professional, committed to embark on a 15+ mile round-trip journey to the Isle of Shoals on a standup paddleboard to raise both awareness and funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters. This year, a community of paddlers is joining together with Chris on his journey on Sat, September 13 to further support the cause.
“I’m a Big Brother and I see what a difference the organization makes in the lives of children right here on the Seacoast,” says Carragher. “My paddle is a tribute to those who’ve made a positive impact on my life. This is the chance for me to help an organization that makes a big impact in the community and bringing together the paddling community we can have an even bigger impact.”
“Stand Up for Littles is a great opportunity to bring visibility to the need for mentors for children in our Seacoast community,” says Stacy Kramer, BBBSGS executive director. “Chris’s role as a Big Brother and his investment to his Little Brother shows what strong support this community is capable of and how one person can have such a big impact.”
Interested in mentoring? BBBSGS serves more than 400 children in 39 cities and towns in Rockingham and Strafford Counties. With the vision that all children achieve success in life, the agency matches children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.
Adds Kramer, “A good Big is someone who wants to make a difference in the life of a child through friendship, fun and support. We ask for a minimum of 4 hours a month – less time than most spend on Facebook!”
