Night at The Woodman Museum IV: Voice...Description
Join us for Night at the Woodman Museum IV: Voices from the Waterfront, along the Cochecho River waterfront in downtown Dover on October 8 & 9, 2016.
Presented in Dover’s picturesque and historic waterfront, the production will include 13 scenes of Dover history that will come to life during the 60 –minute tours around the lower Washington Street, Henry Law Park and River Street area. Over the course of the weekend the cast and guides of Voices from the Waterfront will offer escorted tours of the Cochecho River area that once was home to shipping, mills and of early maritime history.
This unique one-of-a-kind historic tour of Dover’s riverfront will feature some of Dover’s most famous residents. More than a dozen noted, notorious or nefarious citizens from times past will come to life regaling each tour group with stories from their lives and their contributions to Dover’s history and development.
Among the residents lifting their voices during the tour will be gundalow Captain Edward H. Adams whose replica gundalow now sits in the Henry Law Park playground; Agent Charles H. Fish of the Cocheco Manufacturing Company, whose mills anchor the Landing; Telephone switch operator Sadie Wiley who lived through Dover’s Black Day in 1896 witnessing the devastating flood that caused over $300,000 in damages and author Lydia Stevens who wrote about the changes on the Dover waterfront and saw its collapse when the railroad came to town.
Business leaders, early Dover adventurers, a City Marshall and even the first female President of a US railway will be seen during the family-friendly tour.
Tickets for Voices from the Waterfront will go on sale in September and will be available at the Woodman Museum. Prices are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12.
This event is a major fundraiser for the Woodman Museum, celebrating its 100th year, and located at 182 Central Ave. in Dover.Tell a Friend
