Lynn LyonsDescription
Seacoast Educational Endowment for Dover (“SEED”) is proud to announce it has funded a program to bring nationally known anxiety speaker, Lynn Lyons, to Dover on November 1, 2016 from 600-800 PM. The presentation is free open to the general public and will be held at the Dover High School, located at 25 Alumni Drive, in Dover, NH.
Anxiety is the number one mental health problem in the United States. An estimated one in eight children has a diagnosable anxiety disorder. Results of anxiety disorders include truancy, inattentions and restlessness, disruptive behavior, and trouble answering questions and learning the curriculum.
The proposal, submitted by Dover Middle School Counselors Mary Calhoun, Justin Pagnotta, and Beckie Pazdon, emphasized the importance of equipping teachers and parents with tactics to improve learning in and out of the classroom. “When teachers, parents and professionals know what to look for and how to respond, we can quickly get at the root of the problem and help kids live a full, healthy life,” said DMS Guidance Counselor Justin Pagnotta. “Lynn is amazing at giving concrete, non-intuitive strategies to tackle everyday worry—you will walk away from the presentation feeling empowered and eager to try out your new way of looking at things.”
A licensed clinical social worker and psychotherapist, Lyons presents internationally to parents, therapist, teachers, and other helping professionals. Her programs offer research-based information to help prevent anxiety and depression in our children, discuss methods, tools and tactics for handling anxiety, and reveal strategies for change in the classroom and the home.
Beyond her expertise that she provides at her private practice in Concord, Lyons is the co author of two books Anxious Kids, Anxious Parents: 7 Ways to Stop the Worry Cycle and Raise Courageous & Independent Children, and the children’s version, Playing with Anxiety: Casey’s Guide for Teens and Kids.Tell a Friend
