Fashions of the 1700s at the Wentwort...Description
In conjunction with “Useful and Beautiful,” this summer’s exhibit on New England needle work and textiles, some special programs on 18th century clothing are scheduled in the next two weeks at the historic Colonel Paul Wentworth House in Rollinsford.
Drop in on members of the Wentworth family this Sunday, August 2 for “Tea and Stitchery”
as they gather in the parlor to drink tea, sew, and discuss the latest fashions. Costumed interpreters will demonstrate the tools and techniques involved in hand sewing 18th century clothing, including making thread buttons and creating cording with a tape loom or a lucet.
Both completed garments and some in process will be on display. Or visit on August 9 for “A Gentleman of Fashion” when a tailor will be in residence and will demonstrate the techniques used to create men’s clothing in the 1700s. Guided tours of the house and the exhibit will be offered on both days.
