Northeastern Ballet Theatre is pleased to “bring the world of ballet to New Hampshire” with the first of 5 Ballet Master Classes on Saturday, April 22 in their Dover studio (located in the McConnell Center, 61 Locust Street, Suite 239, entrance #8) in Dover, NH. Darren McIntyre, principal dancer with Louisville Ballet in Louisville, KY, will be bringing his expertise in ballet for the first time to the area. Mr. McIntyre’s has an extensive biography and the opportunity to learn from him is not to be missed by any serious ballet student! Originally from Australia, Darren is a graduate of The Australian Ballet School where he was the recipient of The Dame Peggy Van Praagh Award for Choreography, The Sir Robert Helpmann Bursary, and the Young Australian of The Year Arts Award. Mr. McIntyre has toured extensively throughout the United States, Australia, Asia, Canada, Europe and South America, performing a wide range of both classical and contemporary works as a freelance artist and with such companies as Ajkun Ballet Theatre, City Ballet of San Diego, Milwaukee Ballet, The Australian Ballet, The National Ballet of Ireland, and The Landestheater Detmold. This has expanded his repertory to include the title roles in all the traditional repertory ballets & has also seen him featured in works by Anthony Tudor, Chiara Ajkun, Christopher Fleming, David Dawson, Edwaard Liang, George Balanchine, Gregor Thieler, James Sutherland, Jessica Lang, Mark Godden, Michael Pink, Nacho Duato, Salvatore Aiello, Stanton Welch, Stephen Mills, Val Caniparoli, Wan Chin Choong, to name a few. As a Choreographer, he has created several original works including: Australia, Black River, Forlorn, Just make it go away, Liberty Bell, Lights will guide you home, Odyssey, Spartan, and What may come. He has also created original full-length ballet productions of The Wizard of Oz and The Phantom of the Opera. Mr. McIntyre has also held the positions of Artistic Director of Montgomery Ballet and Lake Erie Ballet, Columnist with DANCEtrain Magazine, and Casting Agent at DManagement International Dance Agency. Two classes with Mr. McIntyre are offered on April 22: ages 10 - 13 from 1:00 - 2:30pm and ages 14 and up from 2:30 - 4:00pm. Students from all dance school are welcome, but space is limited so register today! The cost is $50 for the class, or $215 for all 5 classes which include Inessa Plekhanova, Associate Professor/Director of Ballet program, Redford University, VA on May 20, William Starrett, Director, Columbia City Ballet on June 24, Tina Bohnstedt, Owner/Director, TKB Center for Ballet and Dance, Houston, TX on July 15 and Assaf Benchetrit, Assistant Professor of Dance at University of New Hampshire, Durham, NH on August 6. Northeastern Ballet Theatre has studios in Wolfeboro and Dover, New Hampshire and offers classes in classical ballet for ages 3 through adult, including professional level and pointe. Northeastern Ballet Theatre is not a competition or recital-driven school. Students learn technique throughout the year in class and have opportunities to perform in several full-length ballet productions including The Nutcracker throughout the year.
